HISTORY:
More than 500 years ago, when the Spanish Conquistadors landed in that is now Mexico, they encountered natives practicing a ritual that seemed to mock death. It was a ritual the indigenous people, the olmecs had been practicing at least 3,000 years. Instead of mourning, these festivities focused on the continuity of life and were a way to celebrate and preserve the memories of one's ansestors. A ritual the Spaniards would try unsuccessfully to eradicate.
Dia de los Muertos, or the 'Day of the Dead,' which has its roots in two cultures -- the ancient Aztec customs of Latin America, and the Spanish-Christian observance of All Saints Day on Nov. 1 and All Souls Day on Nov. 2. According to Aztec legend on the Day of the Dead, the dead are released from Mictlan -- the land of the dead -- to visit the living world and to mingle with friends and family. MORE HERE

Our living, our life is a continual dance with this eternity-dimension......we call death. We have eternal life now. When one thinks of what happens after death one is still thinking in temporal terms. LET US LEARN THE STEPS TO EMBRACE IT AND FLOW WITH THE MUSIC TO DISCOVER THE RYTHM OF OUR LIVES...... let us dance

Face Painting We paint our faces this evening to make calacas, the faces of grinning skeletons. "When the calacas dance, they take children by the hand," says Zarco Guerrero of Mesa, who celebrate this tradition each year. Peacework Medical Projects-Haiti
